How Should I Use My New Lures?

I got a Jitterbug, a Flicker Shad, a Rattlin’ Rapala RNR-4, And a Scatback from storm lures. If Anyone could tell me what is the best way to use each one

Lake, River, Or both Topwater or Bottom Cast and Reel or jerk the bait or anything else
thanks

Most “new” lures come with instructions on the box which tell you what depth they are designed for, whether or not they are sinking or floating, and what speed of retrieve is recommended as best. Depending on what they were designed to do, you may not be able to fish some of them on the bottom, and unless they are “floaters”, you probably won’t be able to fish them on top either. Any plug designed for freshwater fishing will work in both lake and river, and probably also in saltwater. Take the lures to the water and experiment with each one. Reel it slow, medium, and fast to see how that alters the action. Notice what the lips look like on the lure. Short lips usually run shallow and long lips most often run deeper. Lip-less lures that are not floaters may be fished deeper still. Lures can also have their depth adjusted by adding weight to the line or the lure. Some even attach split shot to the treble hooks, but I think that tends to deaden the action of the lure and I don’t recommend it. I would add the shot about a foot or two on the line ahead of the lure. And with any lure you use, adding a bit of twitch to your rod tip can also alter the action of the lure during the retrieve. Here again, take the lure to the water and put it to work. This is a case where experience really IS the best teacher. What you see is what you get. And in that process, you just might also GET some great fish while you practice. Go for it, and Good Luck!
