Lunge Rein

Tips for lunging cheeky pony?
Have 4yo forward going dartmoor hill, when he’s paying attention i can get him to walk + trot to my command on lunge rein but as soon as he gets bored he’ll start messing around (trotting when i ask for walk, turning in, walking sideways, stopping, + rearing up when i ask him to move on) Has anyone with experience got any tips on lunging him?
i don’t know if you use a whip or not. If not I would start using one. Also when he is going around make sure that you are looking him in the eyes and make it very clear what you want him to do. While you are lunging him make sure you change direction constantly but when you go to turn him bend down and look at his hips and drive his hips away if that doesn’t work wiggle the rope lightly until he gets the idea. If he turns in when you don’t ask him, then what you need to do is look him in the eye and right as he starts to do it swing your whip toward his neck/shoulder. it is all about timing. If he starts trotting when you ask him for walk wiggle the rope until he walks then take the pressure off. If he still rears up when you ask him to go forward then take the whip and smack on the ground behind his tail in a rhythm pattern until he goes forward. the minute he thinks about going forward stop what you are doing. and let him think about it after a while if he is smart he will just start rocking his body forward and then when you stop he will stop that is when you keep going with the whip until he goes. Also if you do it in a rope halter to start it will work best.
