7.why does atticus saves miss. maudie’s oak rocking chair?
8.who put the blanket around scouts shoulder during the fire?
9.explain what atticus means by telling jem not to let his discovery “inspire” him to “furthur glory”?
10.during the fire, scout worries about losing what item that belongs to dill?
1. That he found his pants had been mended by someone unknown (Jem had ripped his pants earlier and when he went back to get them he saw that someone had mended the rip with clumsy stitches).
2. A ball of twine, two dolls carved out of soap, chewing gum, a spelling bee medal, and an old pocket watch.
3. When Jem and Scout went to put the letter in the hole in the tree they saw that the hole had been plugged over with cement. Boo’s older brother Mr. Radley did so; he told the children that the tree was dying and putting cement in the hole would save it. But Atticus told his children that the tree was fine and not dying. It’s not said in the book but it’s implied that Mr. Radley put the cement in the tree’s hole to prevent Boo from leaving the children any more gifts. My guess is that Mr. Radley was a mean sort that didn’t want Boo to have friends.
4. I don’t recall anyone dying at the start of chapters 7 or 8.
5. Because it was snowing, and Scout had never seen snow fall before.
6. When Jem makes a snowman that looks like Mr. Avery, a neighbor of theirs. Atticus tells Jem and Scout to disguise the snowman because anyone could recognize that it was Mr. Avery, and a not flattering depiction of him yet.
7. Because he knew how important it was to her.
8. Boo Radley did, unseen and unheard.
9. Atticus didn’t want Jem and/or Scout to pester or bother Boo, knowing that Boo was painfully shy and just because he had helped the children he wouldn’t want any attention drawn to him; it would be too painful for the very shy Boo.
10. Oh, sorry, that one I don’t have.
