Large Vinyl
Where can I sell my large vinyl record collection?
I have a large vinyl record collection that I want to sell. I know about ebay, and craigs list. Do you know of other places I can go ask if anyone is interested in buying the whole collection? I live in New Jersey.
I worked in an NYC record store for years and from my experience you should not try to sell them to a store if you’re trying to make money off of this. I don’t know the situation in NJ but most places in NYC will just pick out the best stuff and offer bottom dollar no matter how collectible the LP is (the place I worked at paid 25 cents – $1) Plus, they’re never going to tell you if they know something is worth a lot more. I felt really bad for the people that came by with a trunk load of hundreds of LPs and we’d pick out 10 and give them $5. It wasn’t worth the trip.
I assume if you’re trying to unload the whole collection in bulk then you don’t really care if you make any money. Most people have a hard time doing that without something like craigslist. Shipping fees would be outrageous so I guess they’d have to be local. DJs will buy collections sometimes. You could even try posting fliers in local record stores. You could say something like “$50 for 200 LPs” with a list of the genres. You may have a harder time getting rid of them if there are a lot of classical/opera/showtune LPs. EBay is pretty good only if you think you can make more than $5 for any particular album. If you have any jazz LPs, make sure you look them up before you part with them since a bunch of those are worth big $$. Any way you do this, no one is going to pay you what they’re worth unless you set individual prices or sell them off in much smaller lots.
