What should i do for my next project?
Can’t figure out which of 3 projects i want to do next so i figure I’ll let the internet pick for me.
1: Upgrade Winchester 1200. Tube extension, ghost ring sights, ringed forend(pain in the butt trying to find a wood one), side saddle shell holder, ect.
2: Convert 91/30 Mosin to a repro sniper model. Either PU or PE scope, base, drilling/tapping ect. Probably going to go the repro rout as original stuff (even post war) is ridiculous $$. And before you say anything, no i don’t give a rats a** about “messing up a piece of history”. I’ve got 4 of them and there are millions more out there.
3: Upgrade my 1911. Grips, spring kit, match parts ect.
They’ll all get done eventually but you get to pick which one comes next. Feel free to add an suggestions or tips regarding the project you pick.
Hello,
Build the 1911 into an MEU(SOC) repro — very useful and handy! — or play with modifying the Mosin-Nagant trigger before getting into the repro sniper game. You’ll find that you’ll like the trigger a lot more down at around 5lbs.
I have two different sears I use on the Mosin. The first one is in it now. It’s just a Finnish sear I modified in the Finnish manner. The second sear is thinned and modded even a bit more, and the trigger has two holes in which a pin will go through. On the second step and with a slack spring installed, the trigger breaks crisply with almost no creep — just a first stage that weighs less than and ounce.
A repro sniper would be fun, but it takes more doing, I think, than most people realize. Those Russians and Finns put a lot of work into figuring out some mods that look deceivingly simple but are, in reality, somewhat complicated due to the requirement of hand fitting.
I’ve done both the 1911 (I carry mine!) and the Mosin (my go-to rifle), and can honestly say I’m well-versed in both.
Feel free to contact me if you wish.

Josh Smith
